Interview Tips...
| Do Your Research |
| Make sure you know the time
and place of the interview, the person who will
be interviewing you and their role in the
company. Also get some background information
about the company itself and about the position
you are being interviewed for. |
| Dress Appropriately |
| When going to an interview
it is vital that you dress professionally and
appropriately for the job you are applying for.
Dressing too casually gives the employer the
impression that you are not serious about the
position. |
| Be on Time |
| Be on time: Leave for the
interview in plenty of time to allow for traffic
problems etc. Arriving too early for an
interview is acceptable but arriving late is
NEVER excusable. |
| *Smile & Shake
the interviewers hand... |
| Be Alert &
Interested |
Make eye contact with the
interviewer and listen to what they ask you and
what they say about the business.
*Never
criticise your current or past employer... |
| Bring a copy of your
CV to the interview |
| Don't assume that the
interviewer will have a copy with them. Bringing
a CV will also show the employer you have come
prepared. |
| Answer the question
asked |
| Speak slowly and clearly.
Never answer a question with a yes or no but
give a more detailed response to each question.
In other words, qualify your answers. |
| Prepare yourself for
questions that may be asked |
The purpose of an
interview is for the interviewer to have three
basic questions answered.
• Can this person do the job?
• Will this person do the job?
• Will this person fit in with the company? |

Examples |

of questions interviewers frequently ask to
satisfy their concerns. You should prepare how
you might answer these questions before
attending the interview,
example questions... |
| End of Interview |
At the end of the interview
it is common for the interviewer to ask you if
you have any questions you would like to ask
them. Don't feel you have to ask questions if
you have none. However, don't be afraid to ask
questions about the company or the job in
question if you have them, for example:
• What immediate tasks will be required of me?
• What would you expect me to achieve within the
first six months of employment? |
| Salaries & Holidays |
| NEVER ask about salary or
holidays at the interview stage. These questions
will be answered if you are offered the
position. |
|
After the Interview |
Finally, be careful not to
drag out the questioning process. Only ask the
relevant questions that you need to have
answered.
Remember to thank the interviewer for
their time before you leave. |
